Advice and guidance

The Council’s Business Enterprise & Renewal Team offers advice and guidance to suit individual needs in the areas of business support, town centre development, event planning and delivery and regeneration project management. The team has access to a limited budget to offer financial support to meet the aims and objectives of Welsh Government’s Towns First policy through its Transforming Town programme which aims to address the following shared areas:

  • Dealing with vacant premises
  • Addressing poor quality retail premises
  • A need to increase footfall
  • Creating flexible, modern, affordable floorspace for business growth and support
  • Supporting tourism
  • Increasing housing and urban living opportunities
  • Community facilities for co-location of key services

If your empty commercial property is located in the following town centres:

  • Caerphilly
  • Bargoed
  • Risca
  • Blackwood
  • Ystrad Mynach
  • Newbridge
  • Rhymney

Contact the Business Enterprise Renewal Team for an initial discussion about the availability of Transforming Towns funding to support the aim of bringing commercial property back into beneficial use.

The Transforming Towns funding can support ‘large’ schemes with grant aid of up to £250,000 or through the ‘small’ scheme programme which offers up to £25,000, both of which carry a 70% intervention rate. The programme supports the conversion of vacant floor-space on upper floors to residential accommodation. The two schemes have a limited overall budget.
